Liability Waiver & Assumption of Risk
Last updated September 14, 2026
This page is a working draft and has not yet been reviewed by Shadow Cats' program leadership or legal counsel. Don't treat it as final until this notice is removed.
Box lacrosse is a contact sport. Before a player takes the floor with Shadow Cats, a parent or guardian must read and agree to the terms below as part of registration.
Assumption of Risk
Participation in box lacrosse carries an inherent risk of injury — including from player-to-player contact, falls, and equipment — that no amount of coaching, equipment, or supervision can fully eliminate. By registering a player, a parent or guardian acknowledges this risk and voluntarily agrees to let their player participate in Shadow Cats sessions, practices, games, and related events.
Release and Hold Harmless
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the registering parent or guardian releases Shadow Cats Box Lacrosse, its coaches, volunteers, and staff, and the owners of the facilities we use, from liability for injury, illness, or property loss arising from participation — except where caused by gross negligence or intentional misconduct. This release does not waive any right that cannot be waived under Texas law.
Emergency Medical Care
If a player is injured or becomes ill during a Shadow Cats activity and a parent or guardian cannot be reached immediately, the registering parent or guardian authorizes Shadow Cats coaches and staff to arrange or consent to emergency medical treatment on the player's behalf, including transport to a medical facility. Shadow Cats will make every reasonable effort to reach a parent or guardian first and as soon as possible afterward.
Related Policies
This waiver is one of several policies a family agrees to at registration. See also the Concussion & Injury Acknowledgment and the Parent & Player Code of Conduct.
