Concussion & Injury Acknowledgment

Last updated September 14, 2026

Box is a contact sport, and head injuries are a real risk in any contact sport. This page explains our approach, and what we ask every family to acknowledge at registration.

When in Doubt, Sit Them Out

If a coach suspects a player may have a concussion — from a hit, a fall, or any other cause — that player is removed from play immediately for the rest of that session, no exceptions. This applies even if the player wants to keep playing and even if the symptoms seem mild.

Signs We Watch For

Coaches watch for common signs of a possible concussion, including:

  • • Confusion, dazed appearance, or trouble remembering what just happened
  • • Headache, dizziness, nausea, or sensitivity to light
  • • Balance problems or slurred speech
  • • Loss of consciousness, even briefly

Returning to Play

A player removed from a session for a suspected concussion may not return to any Shadow Cats session until a parent or guardian confirms the player has been evaluated by a doctor or other qualified healthcare provider and cleared to return. We will ask for that confirmation before your player takes the floor again — this protects your player, not the other way around.

Other Injuries

The same principle applies to any injury a coach believes needs more than a quick check — we'd rather have your player sit out one session unnecessarily than send them back onto the floor hurt. See the Liability Waiver for how emergency medical care is handled if a parent or guardian can't be reached right away.

Tell Us About Existing Conditions

If your player has a history of concussion or another condition coaches should know about, let us know when you register or any time after.
