Competitive Play
Take It to the Floor.
Not every athlete is chasing the highest national tier — and that is exactly why our competitive Shadow Cats teams matter. This is meaningful game experience that still puts development first.
Tournaments are optional. Plenty of players take the skills-only path and never travel, and that is a perfectly good way to be part of this program.
How Players Compete
Regional & travel tournaments
Shadow Cats teams travel to box tournaments through the year. Rosters are selected per event.
Summer scrimmage league
Six weeks of weekly games through June and July — the most game reps in the calendar.
Event-based team selections
Teams are picked for specific events rather than locked in for a season, so a player can opt in around their other sports.
The Development Pathway
Players are developed, evaluated, and advanced on readiness — not just age.
Step One
Shadow Cats Training
Sunday Skills, year-round, grouped by grade. Where everybody starts.
Step Two
Shadow Cats Competitive Play
Tournaments and scrimmage leagues, for players who want game reps. Optional.
Step Three
OilCats NLL Juniors
The national team. Tryout-only, U9 through U17, competing in premier national and international events.
The Next Level
OilCats NLL Juniors National Team
For athletes ready to push beyond, Shadow Cats provides a direct pathway into elite competition. OilCats is a tryout-only team — selection is based on skill, lacrosse IQ, competitiveness, and commitment. This is not a participation team.
Tryout dates, rosters, and the event schedule live on the OilCats site.
